Wall of Fame
Eleanor Broadley
Eleanor Broadley joined Midwifery Care of Peel & Halton Hills in 1997 (through to Dec 2022) as one of our front office administrators and continued her role at our Georgetown clinic when the practice became Midwives of Mississauga. She also led our in-house prenatal classes, where many clients gained invaluable insights to help them prepare for pregnancy and parenthood. Eleanor’s prenatal classes were legendary!
As a mother of 9, grandmother of 19, and great-grandmother of 2 – she first experienced midwifery in the UK when she began having children. All of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were born with the assistance of midwives in Ontario. Eleanor was an unparalleled advocate for midwifery.
Eleanor passed away in the summer of 2024, and is sorely missed by all of us. We have dedicated our newborn feeding room ‘The Broadley Newborn Feeding Room’ in loving memory of Eleanor, Prenatal Educator and Mum!
Jacquie Klan
Registered Midwife (R.M.)
Of all the midwives we have ever worked with, Jacquie has had the most interesting and varied career path. Jacquie counts among her past careers Pilates Studio owner and stylist for Civello, and came to us via Winnipeg, New York, Toronto & Georgetown. Midwifery is where she found her home and Midwives of Mississauga is where she found her place.
Jacquie quickly became an active member of MoM as a partner in the business and was a founding partner in the practice. Jacquie helped build the business into the healthy sustainable practice that we are today, and worked actively to develop interdisciplinary relationships with the Women’s and Children’s team at Trillium Health Partners. She sat on the Breastfeeding Friendly Initiative committee that saw the hospital get it’s BFI certification and was a super-user when the hospital implemented its new health information system, EPIC, which might surprise anyone who knows her “love” of all things technical!
Jacquie started her practice as a midwife in the summer of 2010 and she will retire from midwifery in the summer of 2022. Her sense of humour, fantastic story telling and commitment to colleagues and clients alike will be sorely missed at Midwives of Mississauga! We wish Jacquie well in her retirement and know that she will enjoy her well deserved rest and relaxation.
Karolina Kullerstrand
Registered Midwife (R.M.)
In 2015 Karolina joined us as a midwife at Midwives of Mississauga. Karolina came to us from Sweden, where she was the head of Division of 35 midwives, who jointly attended 7500 births a year at the busiest hospital in the country. Karolina started her practice in Sweden as a midwife in 1993 and over the course of her career worked as a primary care midwife providing prenatal, intrapartum and postpartum care while developing in her career as both a leader and educator. Karolina came to us well prepared to integrate into Canadian midwifery.
As a midwife at MoM, Karolina continued in her roles as a leader, educator and excellent care provider. She worked as a lecturer in the International Midwifery Education Program helping integrate other foreign trained midwives into Canadian midwifery. She sat on interdisciplinary committees at Trillium Health Partners working to integrate midwifery into Women’s and Children’s health, she was a partner in the practice and she was always a warm, compassionate voice in the room whether to her colleagues or to her clients. As Karolina returns to practicing midwifery in Sweden in the summer of 2022, we wish her well in her future adventures and count ourselves lucky for having had her as a member of our MoM family for the past 7 years!
Maggie Davies
Registered Midwife (R.M.)
Maggie began her career as a registered nurse in England in 1979. At that time there were very few jobs for qualified nurses and Maggie was offered a post as a student midwife. By August of 1980 she was a Registered Midwife and has never looked back.
In her own words, “I fell in love with midwifery after my first birth and have enjoyed all aspects of midwifery and midwifery care.”
Maggie and her family immigrated to Canada in February of 1997 and by October of 1998 she had successfully completed the registration requirements to practice in Ontario. Maggie has been with Midwives of Mississauga every since and has helped thousands of families along the way. While we are thrilled for her that she is retiring, we are sad to see her go!
